dear barkans

last night at 12:30 a.m. in oakland international airport, i saw an unusual and extremely pleasant site. alan barkan, son of ruben and rose, walked off a united airlines flight (which incidentally was six hours late), looking handsome and wise with a long pony tail and a greying beard. out here on the frontier, it's so wonderful to see our a barkan face.

wouldn't be great if we could find common ground and all get together and hang out, or as some my younger frinds say, "hang".

anyway, i would love to see all of you barkans.

love, barry

To all the Barkan's; if you would care to communicate with me via email, just click on my name. Once again, thanks for the positive response to this wonderful idea and resulting site created by Alan Barkan.

Hello Molly, Glad you took the time to react and respond.

I am Molly Barkan, daughter of Michael. I checked out the web site because I saw the letter that was sent to our house. I just wanted to say hello.

Nice Haiku, Barry. And I must share gratitude with Alan as well. I've emailed and/or spoken with 3 of my long-lost-for-absolutely-no-good-reason cousins and I'm feeling extremely blessed. Thank you, Alan, this has been an awakening. Missy

this is barry, number two son of ruben, of blessed memory, and rose, brother of bruce and alan, husband of debora (debby) and father-by-choice of naomi, checking in.

is rose the last of her generation? i don't know about jeanne, wife of max, the first born, mother of barbara and brian, may he rest in peace, and jeanie, wife of isadore ('iggy' or 'high'), perhaps the sixth born, stepmother of karen. they may still be on the planet.

grandfather abraham came from mintz in bialorus which as i understand it is not far from chernobyl. grandmother zlotta (lottie) came from kovna goberna in lithuania. how they met in this time before automobiles, planes and vacations is a mystery to me. there is something hidden and secretive going on there. i remember as a boy hanging with grandma in her apartment in williamsburg, she always sidestepped my questions about the life she left behind. this was after grandpa died when i was three.

anyway this haiku is in honor of the renewal of the barkan connection. all honor to you my dear brother alan.

legacy renewed
our hearts link past and future
many flowers will bloom

Hi Bruce:
Probably just a network delay...we need to get DSL...our current connection is extremely slow, especially on the upload :-)

Missy, why do you stay-up so late?? Your last note to me was time stamped 3 something a.m.

And a hearty hello to you, Scott & Kathy.
